Dr. Ryen Nagle, vice president of Academic Affairs at Moraine Valley Community College, was appointed to the Commission on the Future of Work through the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). His commission appointment term began on July 1 and will continue through June 30, 2029.
The Commission on the Future of Work advises the AACC on aligning community colleges with the future of work and technology-driven economic shifts, including AI. The commission’s objective is to develop national strategies for AI literacy, skills-based hiring, microcredentials and sector-based partnerships to ensure colleges meet evolving employer needs. The AACC’s six commissions help member colleges navigate a rapidly changing higher education, workforce and policy environment.
Nagle began at Moraine Valley in 2010 as manager of the Dual Credit and Honors programs prior to becoming assistant dean of Career Programs and then dean of Science, Business and Computer Technology. He was named vice president of Academic Affairs in 2023.
During his tenure as dean, Nagle’s subdivision was awarded the 2014 National Career Pathways Award for the top dual credit program in the country; he established and maintained relationships with various organizations, including Moraine Area Career System as well as administrative teams from the college’s regional high schools; and directed college resources and efforts to establish the Engineering Pathways Program, which is a partnership with the engineering program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In 2017, he received the college’s Vernon O. Crawley Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership.
Nagle shared, “This appointment is an exciting opportunity to gain knowledge and develop strategies in a changing educational and workforce landscape. It is an immense privilege to work alongside other community college leaders to find innovative solutions that benefit both our students and employers.”
The AACC is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges. The association represents more than 1,000 two-year, associate degree-granting institutions and nearly 10.5 million students. Nagle expressed excitement regarding his commission appointment due to its focus on AI and workforce development, “Not only is it an honor to be
appointed to this commission, but I especially am eager considering the subject matter. I look forward to the ways the commission will impact community college education across the nation.”
