Moraine Valley holding Memorial Service honoring President Emeritus Dr. Vernon O. Crawley

September 10, 2026

Moraine Valley Community College will host a Memorial Service and reception celebrating the life and legacy of President Emeritus Dr. Vernon O. Crawley on Thursday, Sept. 17, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., at the Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC), 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills.

Crawley died on May 30, 2026. The college’s fourth president, he led the college from 1991 to 2012, when he retired from higher education.

During his tenure, Crawley’s visionary leadership transformed the college. He led the successful passage of an $89 million capital bond referendum that expanded the campus to the sprawling grounds that exist today, oversaw the opening of the college’s two extension centers in Blue Island and Tinley Park and in the last 10 years of his presidency, guided the college to a 30% enrollment growth. His commitment to excellence elevated Moraine Valley’s reputation on the national stage and positioned the institution as a leader in higher education.

Community members interested in attending the Memorial Service can RSVP online or livestream the ceremony online.
