Artist Jacob Boglio utilizes sculptural works to challenge viewers through the complex perspective of labor and the nuanced identities that labor depends upon. Worker narratives – their fabrics and detritus – are transformed into artwork that reflects the conditions of identity, in ambivalence of their labor. In this way, these abstract portraits complicate their labor narratives through formal qualities and modernist aesthetics, with each piece performing in dialogue within the gallery space.
