Attention members, FitRec continues to make adjustments to its operations and services. Please see below for adjustments that took effect recently. All recent/upcoming changes are listed in red below. Thank you for your cooperation as FitRec continues to adjust its operations.
Beginning January 3, 2022, Cook County is mandating all fitness and recreation facility users age 5 and up, be vaccinated in order to enter.
Due to an amendment to the Cook County mandate on proof of vaccination, all Group and Private Swim Lesson participants as well as KidRec participants are EXEMPT from the mandate and may continue to use FitRec for those specific activities.
Members are strongly encouraged to utilize the SmartTMHealth Card via the Illinois Vax Verify System. This will allow members to create their own “pass” even without a copy of their vaccination card. It’s likely that this pass will also be allowed at other venues requiring vaccination within Cook County. Please click the link above and register today!
Children and members without smartphones will be required to provide proof of vaccination reviewed by FitRec staff. This will require you to show a copy of your vaccine card (or a picture of your card) for FitRec to review. Once approved, this will be noted on the member’s account and will pop up as a message each time the member checks in.
All Moraine Valley Community College students, faculty, and staff are required to be vaccinated in order to utilize FitRec at this time. Moraine Valley Community College students and staff will continue using Cleared4 as they have been, but are also encouraged to register with the SmartTMHealth Card as well.
For information on freezing your membership, please click HERE
Freeze forms will be accepted until January 2, 2022, to account for this new mandate. All members will be allowed to freeze their accounts based on this mandate. The typical maximum freeze allowed each calendar year (which starts again on January 1) is 6 months.
Remember, members can unfreeze their membership early at any time without an additional cost.
Lastly, we understand there are questions and concerns. Please check this link for additional FAQ’s directly from Cook County Public Health or email us at hfrc@morainevalley.edu and we will get back to you as soon as we are able.
Thank you for your cooperation and support as we implement this new mandate into our operations!
Beginning Monday, September 20, 2021, Moraine Valley Community College will require self-screening for all visitors to its campus, including all FitRec members and guests. Please note, this is only a self-screening and will NOT include vaccine or testing verification. We strongly encourage you to visit the following link: www.morainevalley.edu/visitor prior to coming to FitRec, so you can fill out the brief screening survey in advance. By doing so, you will get a purple access pass on your smartphone or tablet to show upon entry.
FitRec knows you may have some questions, so please read the following list of FAQ’s below. If you still have a question, please email us at hfrc@morainevalley.edu or call us at 708-608-4000.
1.) Will I have to do this each time I enter?
Yes, it will be required each time, but once you have the link on your phone it’s very easy and quick to fill out prior to entry.
2.) Do I need to be vaccinated or have a negative test?
NO, this is ONLY a self-screen for symptoms and contact with those who may have COVID-19.
3.) If I don’t pass the screening questions, can I still enter?
No, if you do not pass, you will not be able to enter the facility that day.
4.) I’m not good with technology and email and texting, etc…what are my options?
Don’t worry, we will have paper forms available for anyone who needs them. That said, if you can utilize the technology, you will likely find the process to be much easier in the long run. Staff will be on hand to assist you as needed, especially during this first week.
5.) If I’m a current Moraine Valley student or employee, can I use this link as well?
No, current students and employees must follow the mandate as communicated via the college. This was provided to you in a separate link and MVCC students and employees will need a green or blue pass to access the facility.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as FitRec adjusts to this new policy for access control put in place on our campus. Rest assured, we will do our best to make the new process as efficient and smooth as possible.
On Monday, March 22, 2021, FitRec made a series of changes to its current operations in an effort to make the facility more accessible and functional, while also keeping a high priority on the safety of all of its users. One change that we wanted to make you aware of right away is the expansion of our operating hours. Starting the week of March 22, FitRec will be open under the following schedule:
Friday: 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday: 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Please continue to check your e-mail or look for updates here or on our social media channels or app notifications. Thank you for helping us navigate through a challenging year and adapting to our new policies and procedures. Your wellness and safety has always been our top priority.
On January 18, 2021, the state of Illinois lifted its “Tier 3 Resurgence Mitigations” for our region and FitRec resumed locker room privileges (showering and use of lockers, steam rooms still closed until further notice) and resumed in-person group fitness classes on Thursday, January 21. As FitRec continues to monitor the regional restrictions, please be aware that we may have to revert back to stricter mitigations at any time. Please remember that in-person group fitness classes are by reservation only and have reduced capacity limits to promote social distancing.
- KidRec will remain open by reservation only. New drop-off dates and hours listed in KidRec section below.
- Face masks MUST be worn covering nose and mouth AT ALL TIMES (including while exercising). Non-compliance with new mask policy may result in suspension or termination of membership privileges.
- The fitness floor will be limited to 25% capacity.

- Effective Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, FitRec will begin tracking lane reservations and recording “no-shows” on a daily basis. If a member does not report for a scheduled lane reservation, then it will be marked as a “no-show.” After two “no-shows” the member will have their reservation privileges suspended for a full week. If a member records more than five “no-shows,” they will have their reservation privileges suspended permanently. - Lap Swim Changes – Effective March 22, 2021, Lap Swim reservations will move from reserving 1 lane per person to half a lane each. The lanes will show up as lane 1.A, 1.B, etc. in our scheduling system. This means members now have the option of up to 8 lanes to reserve, almost doubling the availability. With these changes, swimmers will swim side-by-side sharing the lane. The lanes will be for Lap Swim only.
-
- To maintain social distancing, swimmers must enter the pool when the other participant is at least a ½ length distance away.
- Only 1 person is allowed to reserve the ½ lane, therefore if 2 family members would like to have a lane together, they would need to reserve both spots in that same lane. As previous, if people from the same household have reserved a lane up to 3 can be in the lane.Effective March 22, 2021, Lap Swim reservations will move from reserving 1 lane per person to ½ a lane each. Since FitRec closed in March due to COVID, FitRec waived all KidRec fees until October 31. Those without the add-on before closure can pay the $5 drop-off fee per visit. In September due to an error in our billing system, members were inadvertently charged the KidRec add-on fee. There was a choice either to have that be applied as a credit in a later month or to receive a refund. For the month of November, KidRec will apply the September fee as a credit. Those who received a refund for the incorrect billing in September will be charged November 1. KidRec billing will resume December 1 unless you choose to opt out.

Members will be able to reserve through the member online portal and FitRec Account App (blue & white app). If the KidRec “class” is full, there is a waitlist that members will be added to. FitRec staff will contact those on the waitlist if a spot opens up. Reservations are made in 2-hour time blocks and the child can be dropped off/picked up at any time during the KidRec “class.” Through the online portal, the KidRec schedule can be found under the Group Fitness/KidRec category. On the FitRec Account app, you can book under Classes. This can also be done in person or over the phone through KidRec or Membership Services desk. Reservations must be made. If you walk in without booking ahead of time, KidRec may be at capacity and not accepting any more drop offs or the space may be closed if no reservations were booked.
- If a member makes a reservation and does not come in, it will be considered a “no show”. Members who commit multiple “no shows” may have their reservation privileges suspended or subject to additional fees.
- Locker rooms: As of January 18, 2021, locker room privileges (showers and use of lockers, steam rooms still closed until further notice) have been restored. Please continue to wear your mask covering nose and mouth and social distance when using the FitRec locker rooms.

- FitRec will track group fitness class reservations and record “no-shows” on a daily basis. If a member does not report for a scheduled class reservation, then it will be marked as a “no-show.” Warnings will be issued to the member after the first and second “no-show.” After three “no-shows,” a member will have their reservation privileges suspended for one week. After five “no-shows,” a member will permanently lose their reservation privileges.

Memberships
Billing for memberships resumed the first week of July 2020. All members were owed 14 days from March 17 – 31 and billing did not include July 1-5. Monthly members should expect a charge of approximately 38% of their typical monthly bill. In addition to this reduction, FitRec also applied a 10% membership reduction for all memberships in July and August 2020. This was a courtesy due to the reduction in hours, programs and services. We resumed full billing September 2020.
Members may continue to freeze their membership, but must submit a freeze form (in person or online) prior to 5 days before the end of the month to avoid next month’s billing charges.
