FitRec tips for a HAPPY HALLOWEEN

H – HANDWASHING – Keep away those ghoulish germs by remembering to wash hands (or use hand sanitizer) before and after eating, using the restroom, and after coughing, sneezing and wiping noses.

A – ALWAYS WALK ON SIDEWALKS – Make sure to stay on sidewalks, walkways or the far edge of the road facing traffic.

L – LIGHT IT UP – Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating and brighten up costumes and bags with reflective tape and glow sticks.

L – LOOK BOTH WAYS – Discuss and model safe street crossing.

O – OFFER OPTIONS – Be creative in what you give out. Kids love the fun and inexpensive surprises like slime, bouncy eyeballs, tattoos and glow bracelets.

W – WEAR SAFE COSTUMES – Make sure all costumes fit and shoes are weather appropriate and comfy.

E- EAT HEALTHY FOOD TOO! – Have extra healthy dinners the week of Halloween and offer apple slices, carrots and celery snacks before and after trick-or-treating.

E – ENTER THE FITREC FAMILY HALLOWEEN 5K – Work up your appetite for all the tasty treats by participating in the adult 5k or kid 1K. It’s a perfect way to run off extra energy!

N – NUMBERS – Travel in groups and use the buddy system while trick-or-treating. Make sure kids know never to enter a home unless they are with a trusted adult.
