Explanation of Services

Single Assessment
Participant will select one single assessment test from the detailed listing of tests available below called “Explanation of Tests.”  A staff member will contact you for your appointment. Total time is complete is 30 minutes.

Body Composition Assessment
Participant will take part in one, 60-minute assessment to determine body composition. This assessment includes a weigh-in, body fat measurements, blood pressure screening, circumference measurements and skinfold measurements.

Full Fitness Assessment
Participant will take part in a full fitness assessment, including a consultation.  Testing includes:  health screening, blood pressure, body composition, cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and posture/balance.

Explanation of Tests

Body Composition Testing
Participant with choose either the Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) or skin fold caliper body fat testing method to determine their percent of fat and lean tissue. The BIA method requires that shoes and socks be removed while standing on the machine for 1-2 minutes. The skinfold caliper method requires participants to wear shorts, t-shirt, tank top or sports bra. The staff will gently grab the skinfold and measure in the thigh, abdominal and arm/pectoral area of the body to obtain body fat percentage. Test will be performed in private assessment room. For single assessment, one test will be performed. For full body composition assessment, both tests, plus a blood pressure screening and circumference measurements, will be performed. At the end of assessment, participant will have an explanation of results. Total time to complete is 60 minutes.

Cardiorespiratory Endurance 
Participant will be tested using a walking or running treadmill-based test. The professional staff will work with the participant to choose the safest and most effective test protocol. We will ask you to walk or run to the best of your ability to provide the best time or mileage possible. Heartrate may be calculated into the formula. At the end of the assessment, participant will have an explanation of results. Total time to complete test is 20-45 minutes, depending on fitness level.

Muscular Strength
Participant will be tested using the 1-rep maximum bench press and 1-rep maximum leg press tests, which are used to assess upper and lower body strength. These tests will be performed in the FitRec fitness floor machine area. The goal is to lift the maximal amount of weight that can be lifted at one time. Participants should not have shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle or low back injuries while performing these tests. At the end of the assessment, participant will have an explanation of results. Total time to complete test is 30-45 minutes. 

Muscular Endurance
Participant can choose 1 or 2 of the following tests: 60 second crunches, Wall Sit, 60 second sit-ups, maximal push-ups or hand-grip dynamometer tests. The participant should perform as many repetitions or hold position as long as possible until muscular fatigue. All tests will be performed in private assessment room. At the end of the assessment, participant will have an explanation of results. Total time to complete tests is 10-15 minutes.

Flexibility
Participant will be asked to perform the Sit and Reach test which correlates the flexibility in the hamstring and back areas. Participants will pre-stretch prior to test and all work is performed on the mat inside the private assessment room. At the end of the assessment, participant will have an explanation of results. Total time to complete test is 5-10 minutes.

Posture/Balance
Participant will have their static standing posture tested while standing facing forward, sideways and backwards. The professional will be focusing on postural deviations of head/neck, shoulders, scapula, spinal, hip, knee and ankle. Participants are asked to wear shirt and shorts that are tight fitting, however, compression shorts and sports bra are preferred. These posture tests are performed in the private assessment room. Total time to complete test is 15-30 minutes.
