American Red Cross: Lifeguard Class - BL r.24

Class Description:  The Lifeguarding course provides participants the knowledge and skills to prevent recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies.

This class is taught in a blended learning format and the assigned online portion(s) must be completed prior to each instructor-led session.

Participants who successfully complete this course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding (including deep water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid valid for 2 years.

Prerequisites:

1. Minimum age: 15 years

2. Complete a swim- tread-swim sequence: Jump into the water submerge resurface swim 150 yards (using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both) maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs then swim 50 yards using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both.

3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water swimming 20 yards surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 12 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point holding the object at the surface with both hands exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

American Red Cross:  Lifeguard Instructor Class - BL r.24

Class Description: The Lifeguarding Instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses including Lifeguarding Shallow Water Lifeguarding Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding Waterpark Skills Waterfront Skills CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Bloodborne Pathogens Training.

This class is taught in a blended learning format and the online portion (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to attending the first in-person session of the instructor course.

Prerequisites:

1. Minimum age: 17 years

2. Possess a current Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid

3. Ability to successfully demonstrate all Lifeguarding and CPR skills including a precourse assessment to perform a water rescue (submerged drowning) extrication single rescuer CPR for 3 minutes.

Spring/Summer 2024 Class Dates: 

Registration opens:  March 20, 2024

Class Prices: Lifeguard Class - $225 for members, $275 for non-members

Lifeguard Instructor Class - $300 for members, $350 for non-members

Registration closes:  Friday before 1st day of class

2024 Lifeguard Class Dates:  May 13-16 (First Class) & May 20-23 (Second Class)

Tue        8 am – 2 pm

Information: All class participants must be able to comfortably pass the pre-test in order to continue participating in the class. Any questions regarding the details of the pre-test, please contact the instructor.  Please register early to allow time for completing the online coursework prior to the first day of the class.
