Cybersecurity awareness is essential for college students because they are prime targets for cyber threats. Students manage sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, financial data, and academic records, making them vulnerable to identity theft and long-term repercussions if compromised. Cybercriminals frequently exploit students through phishing emails, fake job opportunities, and fraudulent scholarship offers. Staying informed and vigilant helps prevent financial loss and protects personal data.
- Use strong, unique passwords. Follow the college password requirements.
- Multi-Factor Authentication is required for account access.
- Use the Self Service Password Reset if you have forgotten your password.
- Never share your password or other sensitive information, including your Social Security number.
- Be cautious of phishing emails. Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from unfamiliar sources. Never share your login credentials, Social Security number, credit card details, or purchase and send gift cards in response to an email request. This is the most common tactic cybercriminals use to compromise student accounts.
- Regularly review your account information and report any suspicious behavior to informationsecurity@morainevalley.edu.
The college is committed to protecting its community, including faculty, staff, and students, through strong cybersecurity measures, but every user must remain vigilant and follow recommended precautions to ensure their own safety.
