Working with machines was not always in the cards for Melody Martinez. She initially went to school for court reporting, but after working in the field, she realized it wasn’t for her.

Instead, she turned to the trades, most specifically heating and air conditioning (HAC). She started taking HAC classes at Moraine Valley. Although this transition between two different professions was initially intimidating, Melody felt nothing but welcomed and encouraged.

This career field, like most in the trades, is looking to diversify and persuade more women to become involved, giving Melody an advantage once she’s in the working world. Melody Martinez
