“I used to be in Beauty Pageants.”

Erin Meyers found her place not in beauty pageants, but in a welding lab.

Erin always liked building things so it came as no surprise that a more hands-on career won out over a business degree.

She started at Moraine Valley pursuing a degree in business but discovered she would rather create things.

Erin talked to her dad who suggested she speak to union officials about potential opportunities. They encouraged her to take classes at Moraine Valley in welding, and the rest is history.

She graduated with her associate’s degree in 2017, but she was not done. She had a few certificates to get on her way to becoming a Certified Welding Inspector.

Now, Erin is working in the Welding Lab as an aide.

“Being a lab aide is awesome, you learn a lot and during your free time you can explore and try new things,” Erin said. “You also gain a lot of real-world experience.”

That experience comes from her professors, “The teachers’ knowledge is astronomical. If you come with an open mind you will learn so much.”

“Everything I could possibly need to be successful is here. Moraine is my best choice because of teachers that care.”
