Becoming a veterinarian had once been something Carly Kemper wanted, but hearing people tell her she is easy to talk to and they are comfortable opening up to her, she decided she would make a career of being a psychologist.

“I’m excited, and I know I’m going to do it—get my degree. My mom is always encouraging me. I remember when I was 4 or 5 years old, she told me knowledge is something no one can take from you,” Carly said.

Carly says coming to college has helped her mature.

“Neither of my parents went to college so I’m the first in my family. I’ve learned time management and that I need to make time to study. I know now I can take on each day,” she said. “I’m also paying for college myself, and Moraine Valley is very cost effective for me.”

Once a shy person, Carly says Moraine Valley is changing that. “Through Student Life I am now more confident, more outgoing than I was. I saw the motto U Belong and thought I wanted to be a part of it,” she said.
