Villa believes Moraine Valley’s faculty and staff share that same commitment to helping students succeed.
“To accomplish your goals, you can’t quit,” says Tomas Villa. “Once I’m into something, I will not quit.”
Villa applies this philosophy whether he’s running as a member of our cross country team or working to achieve good grades as he pursues his criminal justice degree.
“It’s great to be on a team where everyone shares your dedication and wants everyone to do their best.”
He believes Moraine Valley’s faculty and staff share that same commitment to helping students succeed. He likes the small classes because his instructors know him and provide whatever help he needs.
“And the advisor at my orientation was really helpful with choosing the right classes for my major,” he says.
Villa plans to become a police officer and ultimately wants to serve on a SWAT team.
“When I was a kid, I watched a lot of cop shows and that inspired me to become a police officer,” he says.
With an aunt and uncle who work for the Chicago Police Department, Villa understands the risks involved in this career. “I’d like to help people even if my life is in danger.”
He knows it will be a challenge to achieve his dream of working for a police department, but he knows with hard work and his Moraine Valley education, he is on his way.
“I heard from my high school counselor and someone on my team at Reavis that you’ll get a good education here and it’s more affordable than other colleges. Also, it’s such a nice campus. I think this is a great place to start,” he says.
