Acclaimed musician Michael Cavanaugh presents “The Music of Billy Joel and Elton John” on Thursday, March 27, 7:30 p.m., at the Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC) in the Dorothy Menker Theater, 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills.
Cavanaugh was handpicked by Billy Joel to star in the 2002 hit Broadway musical “Movin’ Out.” Deemed the “new voice of the American rock ‘n’ roll songbook” by Billboard, Cavanaugh will perform the greatest hits of the two pop-rock piano legends through songs, including “Piano Man,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Movin’ Out,” “Rocket Man” and more.
Cavanaugh’s charismatic performance on piano and lead vocals in “Movin’ Out” earned him Tony and GRAMMY award nominations. He appeared in the show for three years giving more than 1,200 performances. Following its success, he landed his first orchestral booking with the Indianapolis Symphony in April 2008 for “The Songs of Billy Joel and More.” He has performed several different symphony orchestra concerts over the years with music from Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, Elton John and James Taylor.
In 2008, Cavanaugh signed with Warner/ADA to distribute his first CD, “In Color.” He released a second album, “The Way I Hear It,” in 2017. Over the years, he has performed at PGA Tour events, the Super Bowl and the Indianapolis 500. For more information on Cavanaugh, visit michaelcavanaugh.com/.
