Moraine Valley Community College is offering a variety of summer courses for young students to learn, create, explore and have fun. Classes encompass academic skills, STEM and the creative arts for students in elementary, middle and high school.

Academic courses focus on an array of skills to prepare students for their next grade level and potential career paths. Classes are led by enthusiastic teaching faculty who value hands-on instruction, educational activities and making learning fun.

Students can discover creativity through a variety of classes, including Exploring ELA Through Graphic Novels, Fashion Design and Sewing Workshop, Little Artists Studio, Learn Embroidery, Watercolor Workshop: Donuts, Dungeons and Dragons and more.

Students also can work on academics through Introduction to Calculus and Geometry or try out Young Readers and Writers. In STEM classes, they can explore LEGO Youth Robotics, Stop-Motion Movie Making, STEM Origami, Cryptography- Break and Make Secret Codes or Minecraft-Themed Web Design and Coding.

In June, there also is a STEM Exploration class and Creative Writer’s Workshop at the Moraine Valley Education Center at Blue Island (12940 S. Western Ave.).

New this year is a Youth Exploration and Enrichment Scholarship available for students from six to 17 years old. It will cover tuition for one class, up to $200, during the summer semester. The application deadline is April 30, and scholarship winners will be notified by May 7.
