To the Moraine Valley community,

I want you to know that I have been in contact with Dr. William Serrata, President of El Paso Community College, and Dr. Steven Johnson, President and CEO of Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio, in the wake of the horrific acts of violence that have been perpetrated upon their communities this weekend. Our deepest sympathies go to the victims and their families.

These two evil and hateful acts, along with many others across our country, go against decent moral and ethical behavior. We all must be diligent in ensuring that hate and exclusion have no place at Moraine Valley, in our community, or in this world.  Our college’s Core Values remind us of our responsibility to treat every person with respect.  We pride ourselves on our commitment to diversity and know that inclusion and equity are our paths to fairness. We also will continue to prioritize efforts to keep our campus safe. Our highly skilled and continuously trained police department stands vigil to protect our safety and security.

In the midst of these unspeakable tragedies, let us find strength and resolve in who we are.  We are here to ensure student success as we pledge our service to our college, to our community and to one another.

Respectfully,

Sylvia M. Jenkins, Ph.D.

President
