“(r)evolutions” by David Sobotka is the next art exhibit to be featured in the Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery in the Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC), 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills. The show runs Sept. 25 to Oct. 28, and the artist’s reception will be on Thursday, Oct. 3, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sobotka believes all artists are creators, and through the creative process is an evolutionary one. Over six years, he created more than 3,200 photographic images of plant life placed over a black background. Those creations encouraged him to merge them together into completely new pieces. By turning single images into repeating patterns and shapes, Sobotka’s work emphasizes the beauty and biodiversity of plant life. This work contemplates the infinite variety of biodiversity in the world as well as the ongoing loss of those lifeforms due to humans.

Sobotka majored in fine art at Calvin College. While earning his degree, he cultivated a mindset of creativity and openness to the world, looking at it more as a canvas.

The gallery is free and open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets to FPAC shows, visit morainevalley.edu/fpac/tickets or call (708) 974-5500.
