Retail employees looking for a boost in both their career and pay can find the training they need at Moraine Valley Community College. Register now for fall classes in a program that can help you move up the ladder to becoming a valued member of a management team.
The Retail Management Certificate program, an industry certificate offered in conjunction with the Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) and a Brighter Futures grant through the League for Innovation in the Community College, offers students the opportunity to hone their talents and gain new skills needed for advancement in the retail industry.
The eight courses required to earn the certificate can be used toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in business or marketing and management. Courses include Microsoft Office, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Management, Speech Fundamentals, Introduction to Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Principles of Retailing, and Financial Accounting. Tuition assistance may be available.
“We believe in some cases the Retail Management Certificate will represent the start of someone’s learning and career pathway, or for others may be that additional item on their resume that can give them an advantage over other candidates for a leadership position,” said Mike Crehan, program coordinator in Corporate, Community and Continuing Education at Moraine Valley.
Moraine Valley is one of only 12 schools selected nationwide to participate in the grant to expand this program. “I urge people to call now to find out how this certificate can benefit their career. Given the large presence of retail in our district, this program will help open new doors and provide additional advancement opportunities,” Crehan said.
