For foodies and novices alike, Moraine Valley Community College is offering eight new noncredit culinary classes this fall to expand your culinary skills. All classes are held at the college’s main campus in Palos Hills.

Brownies and Bars
This demo class shows participants tips and recipes for making your own brownies and bars. Try a classic brownie, cream cheese brownies, and Chef Jeanne’s own white chocolate brownies, lemon bars and other easy and delicious bars also will be featured. This one-time class is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Building M, Room M143. The cost is $84. Registration is required; the course code for this class is CA4-395-270.

Yeasted Breads
Learn the basics of bread making with three simple yeasted doughs: French baguette; rosemary focaccia; and tender, buttery soft rolls. Learn about the different kinds of yeast and flours used by professionals for expert results at home. Breakfast Cookery: Breakfast for Dinner!
Learn how to prepare a variety of egg dishes, including omelets, poached and
pan-fried eggs, along with crepes and fillings. Practice the technique of flipping

Pizza!
In the time it takes to order a pizza and have it delivered, you could make your own pizza that beats any commercial product. Learn two different pizza doughs you can make in advance. In class you’ll customize your own pizza using a variety of sauces and toppings, then bake it yourself in a professional oven. Succulent Sauces
Join Chef Lampros and learn how to create a Béchamel sauce (one of the famous “mother” sauces). This hands-on class shows how you can accompany this sauce with pasta, vegetables and more. Halloween Sweets and Treats
Learn to make your own classic Halloween treats, perfect for a party. This class demonstrates how to make caramel corn, old-fashioned candy apples, gourmet brittles, and pumpkin whoopie pies. An Organized Kitchen!
Find time, money and space in this heart of your home. Organize the space, explore menu planning, savvy shopping, and start making your kitchen work for you. This one-time class is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Building M, Room M207. The cost is $18. Registration is required; the course code for this class is PD4-359-200.

Thanksgiving Holiday Pies
Learn the secret of homemade pie dough and how to make a seasonal fruit and pecan pie in this hands-on class. You’ll get to take home a pie and some dough for your Thanksgiving pie.
