Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills is offering four new noncredit history classes designed for both long-time enthusiasts and beginner history fans.
The World War II
This class guides participants through several aspects of World War II with a special focus given to the home front, western/eastern fronts, the war in the Pacific and the battle of the Atlantic. This four-week class meets on Thursdays beginning Feb. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Building M, Room M207. The cost is $50. Registration is required; the course code for this class is HS4-220-200.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll: A History
This class examines the development of this distinctly American genre of music, from the late 1940s through to the 1990s, as well as various subgenres such as psychedelic, funk, punk, and heavy metal. This two-week class meets Wednesdays beginning Feb. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Building M, Room M201. The cost is $25. Registration is required; the course code for this class is HS4-225-200.
The Ireland: Famine and Migration
Come together with other history buffs to discuss the Irish famine, history of Ireland and the role of Irish emigration. This one-day class is scheduled for Thursday, March 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Building M, Room M208. The cost is $18. Registration is required; the course code for this class is HS4-226-200.
The Baseball: A Short History
This class examines how the game of baseball came to be intertwined with the development of the nation. It also dives into local fan favorites, including the White Sox, Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, and their rivalry. This two-week class meets on Thursday, April 4, and Thursday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Building M, Room M208. The cost is $25. Registration is required; the course code for this class is HS4-233-200.
