The Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC) is hosting a virtual performance by Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble (5HE) on Thursday, April 22, 7 p.m.
5HE is a world class mixed instrumentation chamber ensemble and arts education group that partners with schools to share this brand of music with a wider audience through interactive, educational programming and concerts, which includes playing music with the actions of video game players in real time.
The 5HE program for the evening is Rivers Empyrean. With an emphasis on the life cycle of water and its importance to existence on Earth, this program will feature a new commissioned work by Patrick O’Malley, driven by ecological data from Friends of the Chicago River, and another by Shawn Okpebholo that celebrates water as a precious resource by transforming it into a musical instrument. A few additional pieces inspired by First Peoples also will be performed. The show will explore what it would mean for humans to return to a sacred concept of nature instead of existing outside its impact.
