Moraine Valley student Yasir Muhammed, of Oak Lawn, has been selected for the cast of “Midsummer Night’s Dream,” opening Dec. 6, at Chicago Shakespeare Theater at Navy Pier in Chicago.
Muhammed is an understudy for multiple fairies in the popular Shakespearian comedy, which runs through Jan. 27, 2019. “When I found out I was chosen, it took a while for it to sink in,” the theater major said. “I couldn’t believe I made it into a professional theatrical production. It was a phenomenal feeling.”
Under the guidance of Dr. Craig Rosen, professor of theater and Academic Theater Program coordinator, Muhammed honed his acting skills in class as well as through roles in the college’s productions of “Hair,” “Rabbit Hole,” “The Winter’s Tale,” “The Merchant of Venice,” “A Christmas Carol,” and “Spring Awakening.”
A member of the Beverly Theatre Guild in Chicago, Muhammed’s ultimate goal is to perform on Broadway, television and in major motion pictures. “At age 6, I wanted to be an author. At 8, I wanted to be a cinematographer. At 12, an actor and at 18, I wanted to be a singer. Now I’m 20, and I want to do it all.”
