Moraine Valley Community College is offering free family sign language classes for families who have Deaf or hard-of-hearing children ages birth through high school. The classes are taught by Deaf instructors in sign language and written English.

The Level 1 class will be for beginners. Sessions will run on Tuesdays from Aug. 30 through Oct. 4, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a choice of attending in person or virtually via Zoom. Another session for beginners will only be available via Zoom. It will run on Thursdays from Sept. 1 through Oct. 6, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

People with some sign skills can attend one of the Level 2 classes that begin in October. The Tuesday class will run from Oct. 11 through Nov. 15, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a choice of attending in person or via Zoom. A Zoom-only session will run on Thursdays from Oct. 13 through Nov. 17, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Immediate and extended family members are welcome to take the classes.
