Steve Pappageorge, formerly Moraine Valley Community College’s executive director of Community Education, Workforce Development and Government Relations, was recently named vice president of Workforce, Strategy and External Affairs at the college. He has served at Moraine Valley since 2017.
Under Pappageorge’s leadership, the college will maintain its focus on community and external engagement, while continuing to leverage Moraine Valley’s relationships with industry partners, community organizations, Chambers of Commerce, students, alumni, legislators and other elected officials.
In addition to the duties under his previous title, Pappageorge will oversee Moraine Valley’s Job Resource Center and enhance the college’s concentration on apprenticeships. “I also will be focusing more on community/employer outreach so the college can help provide workforce development for our employers. We will go to the employer and find out what they need, and if the college doesn’t offer that, we will figure out how we can meet the identified need either through a noncredit or credit solution or something innovative,” Pappageorge explained. “We will be helping the college move at the speed of business.”
Pappageorge is excited about his new role at the college. “I’m looking forward to making an impact in the district’s workforce, whether it is helping incumbent workers get retooled and retrained, helping folks find their career and getting them trained, or helping employers connect with potential employees and seeing the southwest suburbs thrive,” he shared.
Dr. Pamela J. Haney, president of Moraine Valley, shared that Pappageorge’s role will allow the college to more strategically serve the community. “In his previous role, Steve greatly grew our partnership efforts, expanding the college’s strategy to connect with local businesses and community stakeholders. In this new role as vice president, I know Steve will excel in creating opportunities and connections for nontraditional and working students, local businesses and the community as a whole.”
