To open the Moraine Valley Community College Academic Theater season, the department is holding auditions for the Mel Brooks musical “Young Frankenstein” on Monday, Sept. 8, starting at 6 p.m., in the Fine and Performing Arts Center, 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills.

From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation “The Producers,” is “Young Frankenstein,” a musical about Frederick Frankenstein, grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein (pronounced FRONK-en-steen), who inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. Hilarity ensues as Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors with help from a hunchbacked sidekick and leggy lab assistant.

People of all ages, ethnicities, gender identities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition. Those auditioning should prepare a monologue, preferably comedic. While not preferred, cold readings will be provided, if needed. Participants also should prepare 32 bars of a song in the style of the show and bring sheet music for the piece. Auditions will include dance and movement. Students may receive credit if they perform in the show. “Young Frankenstein” will run Oct. 31 to Nov. 9 with rehearsals adjusted based on cast schedules.
