The Moraine Valley Community College Foundation continues its annual fundraising gala for one more week, ending its 20-day virtual gala and auction on Friday, April 24, with a social media event on Facebook.

Join in on fun competitions, view virtual elements at the event, and, at 6:30 p.m. on April 24, view live drawings of the raffle winners. The grand prize winner will receive two round-trip domestic airline tickets. Among the runner-up prizes will be an Echo Show digital assistant and a Ring Video Door Bell Pro system. Raffle tickets, which are $15 each or four for $50, are available now.

Each day during the final week of the virtual gala, the Foundation’s Facebook page will feature a different video in keeping with the gala’s Roaring Twenties theme, including one created by Moraine Valley chef Rose Deneen, who walks viewers through making Baked Alaska, a popular dessert from the 1920s, and a mixologist who will share recipes for making beverages during the 1920s.

Final bids are being taken this week on items such as restaurant gift certificates, tickets for local attractions, family-friendly events and concerts, brewery tours, museum passes, trips to Mexico, dinners hosted by the Moraine Valley Culinary Arts Program, private chef dinners and more.

“We have so many wonderful items in our auction,” said Kristy McGreal, executive director of the Foundation. “We have a handmade 1920s replica ice box cabinet with wine storage that’s made of sassafras wood with oak shelves. It is absolutely beautiful.”

Another item is a private chef dinner for six at Country House Restaurant in Alsip. “We are always so grateful to Country House for its generosity, and this year, the winner has the option to take a private tour at Whittingham Meats prior to the dinner to select the meat for their dinner. It’s a fabulous package,” McGreal said.

The auction also includes two tickets for each of the main stage performances during the college’s Fine Performing Arts Center 2020-21 season. The lineup includes Ben Vereen’s “Steppin’ Out,”, Second City, “The Piano Men” featuring Jim Witter, master illusionist Vitaly, and more.

“The gala is our largest fundraiser of the year, and we count on this event to provide support for students and programs for the college,” McGreal said. “Joining us online to participate in the auction, buy raffle tickets or make a donation helps us continue to provide financial support for the college.”

Helping to make the gala and all Foundation events possible are sponsors UPS, platinum; PepsiCo, DKA and Legat Architects, gold; Heide Wealth Management and KI, bronze; First Midwest Bank, supporting sponsor; and Live Right Senior Care and Tori Construction, gala sponsors.
