Moraine Valley Community College is joining the national 2025 Community College Month (#CCMonth) campaign to bring attention to the value and importance of the college to the community. This year’s theme is “Best Decision Ever” and Moraine Valley has planned events and activities throughout April to help students celebrate their decision to attend the college.

#CCMonth is a grassroots education and outreach campaign coordinated by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) across the United States every April. The primary goals of #CCMonth are to improve awareness of the economic, academic and equity advantages of attending community colleges, and to bust longtime stigmas wrongly associated with public two-year colleges.

“Moraine Valley is proud to join with community colleges across the country in celebrating #CCMonth,” said Dr. Pamela J. Haney, college president. “While affordability is certainly an important reason students choose Moraine Valley, they find pursuing education here is one of the best decisions they can make because of our world-class programming, expert faculty and commitment to innovation.”

Haney explained that community college can open doors to a bright future for students and the community. “Our community partnerships and campus resources not only meet our students’ educational needs, but also positively impact local residents. The college provides affordable training for in-demand fields, access to financial aid and addresses community needs through resources like our Project Care Food Pantry. Engaging with the community is one of our foremost priorities.”

Public community colleges are a uniquely American educational model that was designed to guarantee access to affordable, high-quality higher education for all people. Moraine Valley’s Board of Trustees unanimously adopted a resolution at its March 18 meeting celebrating National Community College Month in honor of the more than 1,200 community colleges in the country and their role in offering educational opportunities.

“Everywhere I go, I am told by current and former students that choosing to go to a community college is one of the best decisions they ever made,” said ACCT President and CEO Jee Hang Lee. “The reality is that many students don’t realize this until after they attend and realize what opportunities their community college gave them, and how much their instructors at the college cared about them. Our goal is to get the message through to students before they make one of the most consequential financial decisions of their lives: choosing a college or university.”

Community members interested in Moraine Valley can attend the college’s Open House on Saturday, April 26, 9 a.m. to noon, in Building M at 9000 W. College Parkway, Palos Hills.
