Moraine Valley Community College is the first community college in Illinois to host Amazon’s specialized training programs. These new Amazon Web Services (AWS) training classes take place on the college’s main campus in Palos Hills beginning in February.
Eight classes are being offered.
• Architecting on AWS
This class covers the fundamentals of building an IT infrastructure on the AWS
platform. Students learn how to optimize the AWS Cloud, best practices and design patterns for architecting optimal IT solutions on AWS, and building a variety of infrastructures in guided, hands‑on activities. The class also covers how to create fledgling architectures and build them into robust and adaptive solutions. This class also includes one day of AWS Technical Essentials where you will learn about AWS products, services, common solutions, the fundamentals of identifying AWS services so that you can make informed decisions about IT solutions based on your business requirements.
This four-day class runs Tuesday, Feb. 11 to Friday, Feb. 14 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Building M, Room M203. The cost is $2,395. Registration is required; the course code is AW5-100-001.
• Advanced Architecting on AWS
Build on concepts introduced in Architecting on AWS. Learn how to build complex solutions that incorporate data services, governance, and security on the AWS platform. You will also learn about specialized AWS services, including AWS Direct Connect and AWS Storage Gateway, that support hybrid architecture, and you will learn about best practices for building scalable, elastic, secure, and highly available applications on AWS.
This three-day class runs Tuesday, March 10 through Thursday, March 12 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Building M, Room M203. The cost is $1,995. Registration is required; the course code is AW5-101-001.
• Developing on AWS
Learn how to use the AWS SDK to develop secure and scalable cloud applications. This class explores how to interact with AWS using code and discuss key concepts, best practices, and troubleshooting tips. This class also includes one day of AWS Technical Essentials where you will learn about AWS products, services, common solutions, the fundamentals of identifying AWS services so that you can make informed decisions about IT solutions based on your business requirements.
This four-day class runs Tuesday, Feb. 18 to Friday, Feb. 21 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Building M, Room M203. The cost is $2,395. Registration is required; the course code is AW5-101-001.
• DevOps Engineering on AWS
Learn the most common DevOps patterns to develop, deploy and maintain applications on the AWS platform. Students explore the core principles of the DevOps methodology and examine use cases applicable to startup, small to medium-sized business, and enterprise development scenarios.
This three-day class runs Tuesday, March 3 to Thursday, March 5 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Building M, Room M203. The cost is $1,995. Registration is required; the course code is AW5-201-001.
• Systems Operations on AWS
Learn how to create automatable and repeatable deployments of networks and systems on the AWS platform. Students explore the AWS features and tools related to, and best practices for, configuration and deployment. This class also includes one day of AWS Technical Essentials where you will learn about AWS products, services, common solutions, the fundamentals of identifying AWS services so that you can make informed decisions about IT solutions based on your business requirements.
This four-day class runs Tuesday, April 14 to Friday, April 17 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Building M, Room M203. The cost is $2,395. Registration is required; the course code is AW5-202-001.
• Security Operations on AWS
Security Operations on AWS demonstrates how to efficiently use AWS security services to stay secure and compliant in the AWS Cloud. The class focuses on the AWS recommended security best practices that can be implemented to enhance the security of data and systems in the cloud. This is a specialty course best suited for individuals who are responsible for governing, auditing, and testing an organization’s IT infrastructure, and ensuring conformity of the infrastructure to security, risk, and compliance guidelines.
This three-day class runs Tuesday, Feb. 25 to Thursday, Feb. 27 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Building M, Room M203. The cost is $1,995. Registration is required; the course code is AW5-300-001.
• Big Data on AWS
Learn about cloud-based Big Data solutions such as Amazon EMR, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Kinesis, and the rest of the AWS Big Data platform. Students will learn how to use Amazon EMR to process data using the broad ecosystem of Hadoop tools like Hive and Hue. Understand how to create Big Data environments, work with Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, Amazon QuickSight, Amazon Athena, and Amazon Kinesis, and leverage best practices to design Big Data environments for security and cost-effectiveness. This class also includes one day of AWS Technical Essentials where you will learn about AWS products, services, common solutions, the fundamentals of identifying AWS services so that you can make informed decisions about IT solutions based on your business requirements.
This four-day class runs Tuesday, March 24 to Friday, March 27 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Building M, Room M203. The cost is $2,395. Registration is required; the course code is AW5-400-001.
• Data Warehousing on AWS
Learn concepts, strategies, and best practices for designing a cloud-based data warehousing solution using Amazon Redshift, the petabyte-scale data warehouse in AWS. We will demonstrate how to collect, store, and prepare data for the data warehouse by using other AWS services, such as Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon EMR, Amazon Kinesis Firehose, and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). We will also explore how to use business intelligence (BI) tools to perform analysis on your data. This class also includes one day of AWS Technical Essentials where you will learn about AWS products, services, common solutions, the fundamentals of identifying AWS services so that you can make informed decisions about IT solutions based on your business requirements.
This four-day class runs Tuesday, April 28 to Friday, May 1 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Building M, Room M203. The cost is $2,395. Registration is required; the course code is AW5-401-001.
