Moraine Valley Community College welcomed Dr. David Dammon to serve as the new vice president of Administrative Services. In mid-January, he began overseeing the Campus Operations, the Police Department and the Center for Sustainability to maintain a safe, clean, secure and pleasant environment for faculty, staff and students.
Dammon brings years of experience in law enforcement and higher education administration to the college. After decades as a police officer and sergeant, he served as an adjunct instructor at Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois.
Dammon shared, “I started off as an adjunct instructor teaching criminal justice, dipping my toes into college employment and from there, it just continued upwards. I became a full-time faculty member and was tenured and then an associate dean.”
Following high school, Dammon attended Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois, to explore potential majors and careers before serving as a sergeant for the Belvidere Police Department. Becoming an adjunct instructor gave Dammon an appreciation for the administrative side of higher education. He then became executive director of campus operations at Kishwaukee College before serving as assistant vice president at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, Illinois.
He shared that his experience as a faculty member and faculty president at Kishwaukee College aided in his understanding of and appreciation for administrative work. He added, “The one thing that’s been the same between all the institutions I have worked at is that students are the number one goal.”
Dammon hopes to reinvigorate sustainability on Moraine Valley’s campus and oversee insurance and risk management. He also plans to focus on budgets in all the areas he manages as well as on maintenance and campus appearance.
Dammon said, “Everything we do here, it helps give people a better life than what they’d have. The way I’ve always seen community colleges is that we do the most good, but with the least resources.”
