Moraine Valley Community College’s Academic Theater Department will present William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” from July 30 to Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. The play will be outdoors in the wooded area just north of the Fine and Performing Arts Center, 9000 W. College Pkwy., Palos Hills. In the event of inclement weather, the show will be moved inside the Dorothy Menker Theater. Admission is free.
Considered by many to be Shakespeare’s swan song, “The Tempest” follows old Duke Prospero and his daughter Miranda, who have been shipwrecked on an enchanted island for 12 years. Many of Prospero’s old foes end up on the island, presenting him with the opportunity to settle old scores. When Miranda falls in love with the son of one of his foes, Prospero must decide if he should use his power to exact revenge or forgive.
Guests who attend the show are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and a picnic dinner to enjoy Shakespeare under the stars. Alcohol is not allowed on Moraine Valley’s campus.
This Academic Theater production is being directed by Dr. Craig Rosen, professor of Theater and the Academic Theater Program coordinator.
