Moraine Valley Community College is hosting its Medical Education Series presentation on “Advances in Treatment of Stroke and Brain Aneurysms,” from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the Dorothy Menker Theater, in the Fine and Performing Arts Center, 9000 W. College Pkwy., Palos Hills. The event is co-sponsored by Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is free and open to the public.
Dr. Babak Jahromi is the presenter. He received medical training and completed his neurosurgical residence at the University of Toronto. During his residency, he studied cellular and molecular changes underlying cerebral vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage. That led to a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
Dr. Jahromi also completed fellowships in neuroendovascular surgery at the University of Miami and the University of Buffalo. He was recruited to establish the endovascular program at the University of Rochester, where he served as the surgical director of the URMC Comprehensive Stroke Center. Dr. Jahromi is chief of Cerebrovascular/Neurointerventional Surgery, a joint division of the Neurological Surgery and Radiology departments, at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Since 2004, Moraine Valley’s Career/Health Sciences Programs and Northwestern Memorial Hospital have collaborated to host this Medical Education Series on health topics, including sports-related concussions, esophageal disease, foot and ankle trauma, prostate cancer, cardiovascular disease, sleep disorders, lung diseases, gynecological malignancies and treatments, stem cell/bone marrow transplantation, mind-body pain management, tobacco cessation, diabetes, and cochlear implants.
