Jazmine Parker didn’t always know which career path she wanted to take, but she did know one thing for sure—she wanted to go to college. And she was sure of something else—that she would finish.
“I knew I wanted to do something that makes people feel good,” Parker said. “I got really in tune spiritually with massage therapy and I’ve become very passionate about this.”
It was Parker’s grandmother who ignited that passion.
“When I was little I was always giving my grandmother massages. Then when I got older and I was trying to figure out what I should study, it was my grandmother who suggested massage therapy. I’m glad she did. I love it,” Parker said.
And, she loved being active at Moraine Valley. Parker worked a student employee in the Student Life Office and was a member of the Legacy X Dance Team.
“My favorite part of the job in Student Life was putting together events and then interacting with students at those events. I learned a lot about leadership, how to communicate with others, and how important it is to be organized,” she said. “I loved being on Legacy X because that’s when I made friends. It helped me meet new people and let me express myself. I love to dance.”
Parker, the first in her immediate family to finish college, earned a Therapeutic Massage Program certificate in May. “I couldn’t have done this without Moraine Valley. The people at the college are always offering to help. They genuinely care,” Parker said.
