“Zack Hates Robots: A Story by Erik La Gattuta” will be the first art display at the Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery in the Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC), 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills. The show runs from Feb. 4 to March 1, featuring a reception with artist Erik La Gattuta on Thursday, Feb. 5, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
La Gattuta, who has been professor of art at Moraine Valley for 27 years, created his digital drawings for the exhibition during his fall 2025 sabbatical. This project culminated in pages and preparatory studies for the first issue of a comic book series titled “Zack Hates Robots.”
The story’s premise begins 20 years in the future set in a divided U.S., where most people live in decadent cities brimming with money, defined by virtual escapism and human-esque AI. Still, a growing number of citizens reject the self-indulgent lifestyle and have created technology-free, rural townships walled off by military checkpoints. Zack, an angry young man from the countryside, and Liberty, a hedonistic robot artist from the city, discover that neither vision will aid humanity in surviving the weird, fast-approaching future that will ultimately need their help.
The gallery is free and open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets to FPAC shows, visit morainevalley.edu/fpac/tickets or call (708) 974-5500.
