Before getting caught up in goblins, ghouls and trick-or-treating, fit in a quick run or walk and have fun with your children at the Halloween 5K on Saturday, October 31, 8 a.m., on the main campus of Moraine Valley Community College, 9000 W. College Pkwy. in Palos Hills.
Participants can walk or run the chip-timed, certified 5K (3.1 mile) loop around campus with runners starting first and prizes awarded to the top finishers. Children ages 5 to 12 also can participate in a 1K (.62 miles) run. All participants receive a T-shirt.
During and after the race there will be a free family area that includes a costume contest, trunk-or-treating, bounce house, pumpkin decorating, games, and more. Some post-race snacks will be provided by Moraine Valley’s Culinary Department.
Early bird registration ends Sept. 30 and is $35 for the community, $30 for Moraine Valley alumni, $25 for Moraine Valley students, and $10 for the children’s 1K race. The price for community and alumni increases by $5 in October. Signing up on race day is $50 for the community, $40 for alumni, $35 for students, and $15 for children.
Proceeds from the race will go toward the Moraine Valley Foundation, which provides scholarships to students.
