“Far Be It from Me” is the next art display at the Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery in the Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC), 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills. The show runs from Sept. 24 to Oct. 26, featuring a reception with the artist on Thursday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Far Be It from Me” by artist Lisa Walcott, explores themes of support, strength and fragility using familiar objects. Walcott’s work is inspired by anatomy, architectural elements and domestic support structures, reflecting the dynamics of living in a supporting role, navigating contingencies and balancing internal and external forces.

Walcott reimagines common load-bearing structures and utilitarian objects in balanced configurations that embody the wear and tear of support systems, demonstrating the state of tension between repair and collapse.

Walcott is a Midwest-based artist whose work grapples with and makes light of the perils of daily life using kinetic sculpture, installation, drawing and photography. She earned an MFA in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art, has displayed her work around the U.S. and had residencies at Ox-Bow School of Art, ACRE and Three Walls. She teaches sculpture classes at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. For more information on Walcott and her work, visit lisawalcott.com/.
