Elizabeth Ramirez, a 2018 graduate of Moraine Valley Community College, is one of only six from across the country selected for a leadership development program at an American Fortune 100 energy company.

Ramirez, of Blue Island, will begin the program at Exelon in June, after her graduation with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from DePaul University.

“To be selected one of only six for this year and one of only two from Illinois is phenomenal. I am so excited to get started,” Ramirez said. For the first three years, she will be assigned to each of the departments, from engineering, retail and accounting to marketing and more, grooming her to be ready to move into a permanent role. “My major is accounting, but the program is designed to expose me to the entire company so I will have a well-rounded understanding of the company and can manage with the vision of the company as a whole and not just my department,” she said.

“I am ecstatic and so grateful to everyone who has helped me at Moraine Valley, especially the people in Multicultural Student Affairs like Adrienne Stewart (director of MSA and mentor to Ramirez) and Dr. Normah (Salleh-Barone, vice president of Student Development),” said Ramirez.
Stewart said she is extremely proud of Ramirez’s determination to succeed. “When I met Liz, she was already working so hard. She had two jobs and then a third. She has a strong work ethic and always wanted more. She had this sense of family and community, and I saw all that in her and knew she would go places,” Stewart said.

Ramirez, who was the commencement speaker at her Moraine Valley graduation, is completing an internship at Skyska Hennessy, a global consulting, engineering and commissioning firm for the government and private sectors.

“I am really looking forward to being a part of this program at Exelon. I found out there were others from Moraine Valley working at Exelon, like Karim Awwad (former student trustee) and Christina Kendrick, who is the manager of nuclear finance. You see all these people from Moraine Valley who are doing so well, and you are so proud to be part of this network of people who grew and developed at Moraine Valley,” she said.
