Dave Shalabi, of Orland Park, is one of four former Moraine Valley Community College students being inducted into the college’s 2019 Alumni Hall of Fame.

“When I found out I was going to be inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame, I was ecstatic and quite honored,” said Shalabi, a real estate broker with RE/MAX Team 2000 in Orland Park. “Over my career, I’ve been blessed to receive dozens of awards for achievements that are business related. One that stands out the most and means so much to me is the Humanitarian Award. Besides that award, this is probably going to be the most prominent and meaningful because it comes from an educational institution that I felt I made a difference at. It means a lot coming from a college I love.”

After finishing classes at Moraine Valley, Shalabi enrolled in the Advocate radiologic technician program and worked as a general and surgical radiologic technician at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Since transitioning into the real estate field, he was named Rookie of the Year for RE/MAX Team 2000 in 2007, inducted into the RE/MAX Hall of Fame and named the number one commercial agent for northern Illinois for the past five years. In addition, Shalabi received the 2017 RE/MAX Humanitarian of the Year award, and in 2018 was named to Chicago Agent Magazine’s Who’s Who.

He has served on the Orland School District 135 Board of Education and is the current president of the Orland School District 135 Foundation for Education. He’s also a member of the Orland Park Plan Commission and served on the board of directors and executive committee for the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview.

In addition, he has organized a food drive for a local food pantry, and a backpack and lunch box drive for children in need. He also helped organize a “Be Kind” 5K walk to raise money for buddy benches around schools as part of an anti-bullying campaign.

“Dave was very active on campus as a student and remained supportive of the college for many years. His service to the community we serve sets an excellent example for our students to follow,” said Patti Friend, director of Alumni and Annual Programs for the Moraine Valley Foundation.

Shalabi was inducted in the Alumni Hall of Fame along with Holly Bartecki, of Chicago; Dylan Lloyd, of Chicago, and José Ángel Navejas, of Chicago.
