Enjoy traditional Irish step and contemporary modern dance with Darrah Carr Dance on Saturday, May 10, 7:30 p.m., at the Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC) in the Dorothy Menker Theater, 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills.

Since 1998, Bessie Award-nominated Darrah Carr Dance has performed a unique blend of traditional Irish step and contemporary modern dance, drawing from Irish music, step dance footwork and spatial patterns to create a high-energy and rhythmic display. The artistic director, Darrah Carr, refers to her style as ModERIN, a play on the words modern (dance) and ERIN (an Irish American reference to Ireland).

The company has performed across the country at venues such as MASS MoCA, The Yard at Martha’s Vineyard, Wesleyan University in Connecticut, The Center for the Performing Arts and SUNY Orange (New York) and the JFK Museum. They have appeared at the Toronto Fringe Festival, the Hunter Mountain Celtic Festival and the Bank of Ireland Arts Center in Dublin. They often engage in national tours with The Andy Cooney Band.

More recently, Darrah Carr Dance has performed on NBC’s “The Today Show,” with The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, at the annual NYC Irish Dance Festival, in “The Yeats Project” at the Irish Repertory Theatre, at Japan’s Osaka Festival Hall and during a guest appearance with Mick Moloney at the Skirball Cultural Center. They were featured performers in “Absolutely Irish,” a PBS documentary directed by Academy Award winner Paul Wagner. For more information on the troupe, visit darrahcarrdance.com/.
