Enjoy Americana folk duo, Bettman & Halpin, as they present “Americana Stories and Songs,” on Friday, Feb. 7, 7:30 p.m., at the Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC), 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills.
Singer/fiddler and writer Stephanie Bettman and multi-instrumentalist/master guitarist and mandolin player Luke Halpin present a unique show of original folk and Americana music that combines upbeat bluegrass/roots-inspired compositions, soulful ballads and feel-good songs. Interspersed between the songs, the duo shares stories and engages in playful banter.
Bettman & Halpin have toured together since 2008 and started a trio and quartet in 2013. They have twice been a featured act at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, and perform at art centers throughout the U.S. and abroad. They have been recognized in various regional and national competitions, including first prize at the 2021 USA Songwriting Competition: Folk Category; grand prize in the So Cal Live Acoustic Music Competition; winners in the Southern California Topanga Banjo/Fiddle Contest; Most Wanted Artists at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival; Music Connection’s Top 25 New Music Critiques; and five of their CDs have earned radio play nationally and internationally, reaching the top 10 and top 5 on the National Folk DJ chart and No. 1 on The Roots Music Report.
Bettman has drawn comparisons to the soprano stylings of Joan Baez and the emotive Emmylou Harris while Halpin is inspired by Sam Bush, Mark O’Connor and Tony Rice. For more information on the duo, visit bettmanandhalpin.com/
