The Moraine Valley Community College Academic Theater Department is holding open auditions for the play “The Birds” on Monday, Dec. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m., in the Fine and Performing Arts Center, 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills.
Based on a short story by Daphne du Maurier and adapted for the stage by Conor McPherson, “The Birds” tells the tale of two strangers who take shelter in an isolated house from relentless masses of attacking birds. Another refugee arrives with news of the outside world, but her presence brings discord. Paranoia takes hold in the makeshift fortress, posing an internal threat to match that of the birds outside. The story also is the basis for Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film of the same name.
People of all ages, ethnicities, gender identities and backgrounds are encouraged to audition. Those auditioning should prepare a short monologue from a modern play. While not preferred, cold readings will be available, if needed. The show will run from Feb. 27 to March 8 with rehearsals adjusted based on cast schedules.
Interested actors can sign up in advance in Building F, Room F150, or by contacting Dr. Craig Rosen at rosen@morainevalley.edu.
