The artwork of five Moraine Valley Community College students was selected among 200 entries for the 2021 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Art Competition.

This annual juried contest allows student artists to display work they created for class credit between spring 2020 and spring 2021. Entries include ceramics, drawings, electronic imagery, photography, sculpture and other media. The judges selected 59 pieces for the competition.

Moraine Valley entrants include Emilie Lesniak (Crestwood) for “Equal Poise,” ceramics; Ashley Nanoz (Palos Hills) for “Ash,” acrylic paint on canvas; Linh Nguyen (Chicago) for “Taking Care of U,” InDesign brochure; Haley Smith (Orland Park) for “Unusual City Streets,” charcoal; and Giuliana Suarez (Chicago) for “Youth,” digital photograph.

“This competition allows students the opportunity to put their best foot forward to compete with students at multiple colleges, view what other students are working on and showcase their artwork to a larger community. Each year, I am amazed at what was created,” said Dr. Lisa Kelsay, Moraine Valley assistant dean of Liberal Arts. “Our art coordinator, Lynn Peters, does a great job each year with her team at selecting the top 25 students from Moraine Valley to forward to this regional competition.”
