Two Academic Music concerts are scheduled late February and late March at the Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center (FPAC), 9000 W. College Parkway in Palos Hills. Both performances are free and open to the public.
The Moraine Valley Jazz Ensemble presents a concert with special guests Liam Teague and Jaden Teague-Núñez on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m., in the Dorothy Menker Theater. Teague is a world-renowned steelpan player from Trinidad, who also is the professor of music and director of steelpan studies at Northern Illinois University. His 17-year-old son, Jaden, became the first steelpan player to win the Crain-Maling Foundation Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Young Artists Competition. He has been a featured soloist with members of the CSO and Civic Orchestra of Chicago, among other esteemed appearances.
The Moraine Valley Flute Choir presents “Final Farewell: Flute Choir Favorites” on Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. This is the final concert for flute choir director Tammi Carlson, who will retire after 27 years as a Moraine Valley music faculty member. The concert will feature her all-time favorite flute choir pieces and take place in the Oremus Theater.
