The annual literary competition is your chance to share your work, get recognized for your creativity and win up to $100!
The competition also serves as a chance to compete at the Illinois Skyway Writers’ Competition and even internationally. Your work also could be published in Velocity student magazine.
Deadline for submissions is Monday, Oct. 13, 11:59 p.m.
All submissions must be unpublished, original works (no AI-assisted works) written during the fall ’24, spring ’25, summer ’25 or fall ’25 semester and fall under one of the following categories:
- Short fiction (no more than 3,500 words)
- One-act play or screenplay (no more than 3,500 words)
- Poetry (67 lines or fewer)
- Creative nonfiction or personal essay (no more than 2,500 words)
1st Place: $100
2nd Place: $50
3rd Place: $25
Students may submit unlimited entries, but submissions cannot be past Skyway award winners. Previous award-winning pieces are ineligible to compete in the same submission category.
