This series of recent sculptural works from interdisciplinary artist Kaia Olsen explores queer manifestations of embodiment through playful entanglements of performance, material and intention. Kaia’s innately choreographic processes result in tactile abstractions the artist refers to as INSTARS, evidentiary constructs that reference their originative processes, while not equating to them. As such, Kaia celebrates the kinesthetic nature of change itself, using experimentation, precarity and an unsettling sense of levity to serve as the matrix within which each entity ultimately resolves.
