As schools in our community hold remote and hybrid learning programs due to COVID, KidRec is offering a new Remote Learning program to support these students and their parents with e-learning by providing a structured environment for them to complete their lessons and coursework. The weekly program is open to children in kindergarten through 8th grade. The new program begins on Monday, Sept. 8.
Along with the remote learning schedule, there will also be time each day dedicated to recreational activities in our Sports Zone, X Rooms and basketball court areas. Each week, our staff will include a social-emotional learning component based on Illinois state social-emotional standards, such as self-management, responsible decision-making and relationship skills to help promote a safe and positive learning environment.
Weekly Registration
Weekly registration for the KidRec Remote Learning program can be completed by contacting FitRec’s Assistant Director of Youth Programs and Student Development, Angela Caringella, at 708-608-4066 or angela.caringella@morainevalley.edu. Registration is due the Wednesday prior to each scheduled week of remote learning. No late enrollments will be accepted.
Our Staff
KidRec staff will be on hand to assist children with remote learning, encourage engagement during lessons, help log on and off virtual coursework, explain and assist with problem solving and class assignments throughout each day. All childcare attendants go through background screenings and are CPR/First Aid/AED certified. Our staff consists primarily of college students from Moraine Valley and other local colleges. Our staff will provide supervision and support during the program, but please remember they are not certified educators. However, our staff will be trained by a certified educator/school counselor with 18 years of experience in the Chicago Public School system. KidRec staff will be responsible for checking on student’s daily tasks and progress, but it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to continue communication with the teachers. There will be no direct communication from KidRec staff to your student’s educator/teacher.
