Provide Effective Care to Family Members

Moraine Valley, together with PLOWS Council on Aging brings you a NEW course series aimed to support those caring for loved ones. This series trains for entry-level in-home, non-medical care of the elderly,  and helps the client meet the demands of living independently and maintaining a personal residence. 

Legal and Financial Issues

Informs caregivers about the legal and financial issues that affect them while taking care of a loved one at home. Topics will cover advanced directives, maximizing employee benefits for the caregiver, budgeting and the Medicare/Medicaid programs.

The course meets Wednesday, April 11 from 6 -7:30 p.m.

Caring for a Loved One with Alzheimer’s

Caregivers will learn how to care for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, as well as how to handle common behaviors associated with the disease. Topics include handling hoarding/rummaging behaviors, safe personal care, and dealing with depression among caregivers of loved ones with dementia.

The course meets Wednesday, April 18 from 6 -7:30 p.m.

Caring for the Caregiver

Prepares individuals who are family caregivers to care for their own health while caring for a loved one. Learn to recognize the signs of caregiver stress, identify ways to make time for themselves, and discover ways to access community resources for themselves and their loved one.
