Be President for a Day!

Tuesday, April 7 or Wednesday, April 8

One selected student will swap places with Moraine Valley’s president, Dr. Pamela J. Haney, for one day. The schedule will be customized around your interests and likes as much as possible. Among other activities, you will:

  • Park in her parking spot and sit in her office
  • Follow her daily schedule, including attending meetings
  • Meet with key members of her staff and a government official
  • Seek out a donation from a college donor
  • Talk to a member of the Board of Trustees and a community partner
  • Have lunch with special guests

Conversely, Dr. Haney will follow your schedule, including:

  • Attending your classes (she will not take a test for you)
  • Meeting with the student trustee or other student groups
  • Working your shift (if you have an on-campus job)
  • Going to club meetings or practice (if you are a student club member or athlete)
  • Eating lunch in Café Moraine
  • Attending a sporting event (if there is a home game)

Who is Eligible?

Any student is eligible to apply for this opportunity; however, the ideal student is actively engaged on campus. While you do not have to be involved in all of the activities listed above, it is important both you and Dr. Haney have a well-rounded experience. You should be taking in-person classes on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays and have opportunities for her to participate in your stead.

Timeline

Friday, March 7 – Applications due

Week of  March 23 – Top three applicants will be invited to present to the selection committee (three- to five-minute presentation about one thing you would like to contribute to Moraine Valley if you were President for a Day)

Thursday, April 2 – Advance meeting with Dr. Haney

Tuesday, April 7 or Wednesday, April 8 – President for a Day
