Moraine Valley has returned the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference All-Sports trophy home following the 2017-18 season. This is the eighth time the Cyclones have earned the honor.
This trophy recognizes the collective achievements of a college’s sports teams. Moraine Valley edged out rival Waubonsee Community College for the win. Each of the eight colleges in the conference is awarded points based on its teams’ eight highest finishes at the end of the year. The Cyclone women’s soccer team won their third straight Skyway title. Women’s and men’s tennis, men’s soccer, women’s cross country, men’s basketball, and softball each finished second.
Moraine Valley first earned the trophy after the 2003-04 season. Since then, the Cyclones have won it seven more times, the last time being after the 2015-16 season.
Each year the competition within the conference becomes fiercer, making this coveted trophy a true prize of grit, hard work and triumph. Thanks to the talented athletes, coaches and staff, the award happily was brought home again.
“This award did not come to us lightly. The competition gets harder every year, and it’s never easy to get this award year-in and year-out. We have the perfect blend of athletes, coaches and staff who all work together to make the difference at Moraine Valley,” said Moraine Valley Athletics director Bill Finn. “Once again this award represents our athletic excellence and demonstrates how we help our students succeed on the field and in the classroom.”
