An effective leader has a vision that will better their department and the college. It is someone who can see what needs to be done, and organizes the work and people to do so. These are among the qualities Dr. JoAnn Jenkins possesses and among the reasons she is the recipient of the Vernon O. Crawley Leadership Award

“I am truly thrilled and honored to receive the Vernon O. Crawley Leadership Award,” Jenkins said. “I always have held Dr. Crawley in the highest regard, and it is humbling to be recognized as this year’s recipient, joining such an esteemed group of individuals who have preceded me.”

Jenkins’ responsibilities encompass a number of departments, personnel and programs that focus on keeping students on track toward completion of their education and maintaining excellence within the institution. She oversees the Dual Enrollment and Dual Credit programs, Veterans Resource Center, Testing Center, College 101 classes, high school group testing, Starfish early alert implementation and the withdrawal pilot. In addition, she serves as the college’s Title IX coordinator.

“More than anything, these responsibilities show that Dr. Jenkins is a more than capable leader who has devoted herself to doing her best and getting results,” said her nominator. “Tasks are completed without a glitch due to Dr. Jenkins’ commitment to making sure her staff is well- equipped and prepared, while also not being hesitant to roll up her own sleeves and help with the toil of the day-to-day work of the Student Success Center.”

Jenkins thanked those who nominated her as well as the selection committee members. “It has been an absolute joy working at Moraine Valley the past 13 years, and I look forward to many more years ahead with this phenomenal community of students, faculty, staff and administrators.”
