Dust Jacket Design
Design I: Layout (ART 186) - 19FA
Dust jackets are a detachable cover that wrap around a book held in place by folded flaps called panels. They were originally used to protect the hardcover case of a book.
Today, dust jackets are an art form of their own.
Digital Art and Design students from Design I: Layout were given the design brief to create a dust jacket for one of the I, Robot short stories. I, Robot is MV’s One Book, One College selection. One key design consideration was to visually communicate the deeper meaning of the story in order to connect with the reader.
These are the final design solutions which were to include front and back covers, spine, and inside panel designs.
