John Sands’ Professional Summary
John Sands brings over 25 years experience in information technology management and information assurance. John earned a Ph.D. from Colorado State University. As a 25-year employee of Moraine Valley Community College, Dr. Sands is currently the department chair of the Computer Integrated Technologies programs. John developed and taught several classes for Northwestern University Graduate School of Continuing Studies in the area of Information Security Management. Over the last 12 years Sands has served as a Principle Investigator (PI), Co-PI and project evaluator for numerous National Science Foundation (NSF) Advance Technology Education centers and projects. Sands was instrumental in establishing the Center for System Security and Information Assurance (CSSIA) NSF ATE project #9950037, one of the country’s first comprehensive Centers for Advanced Technology Education. He also served as a senior researcher for Cisco Learning Institute in the area of technical education. Sands has authored several text books, white papers, web-based course work and lab manuals. Dr. Sands has been invited to speak at many national conferences, including the League for Innovation – CIT conference, the NSF PI conference, the NCATC Annual conference and the AACC Annual Convention.

Kevin Vaccaro’s Professional Summary
Vaccaro’s background started in electronics at DeVry in the early 90’s where he received a degree as an electronic technician. At that time, he started his first job as a computer and printer repair technician. Vaccaro worked 24 years in IT at various levels of management and received a Master’s degree in Information Technology and management, specializing in computer security. He previously taught at Moraine Valley as an adjunct faculty member in the late 90’s until the mid-2000’s, teaching CompTIA A+, Network+, Linux+. Later, he became an adjunct faculty member at Illinois Institute of Technology teaching computer networking, security, forensics, and ethical hacking. He is currently a faculty member at Moraine Valley, specifically in the field of cyber security. He is developing curriculum based on the current state of computer security and the associated parts. His goal is to bring the students as close to real world as possible.
